I am a triathlete in my mid-50’s. I started working with Franks 2 years ago because I wanted to run faster and more efficiently. At the time, I was in a lot of pain related to over-training. Franks evaluated my gait and stance and suggested I get prescription orthotics. He evaluated my form and helped me make corrections. He tailored my workouts to help me achieve my goals. I have been injury and pain-free for 2 years! I have taken over a minute off my 5K time!
Specific things I feel have been beneficial:

When I met Coach Franks for the first time I was impressed by his knowledge about running and how a human body reacts to training.
Even as an experienced marathon runner I’ve learned a lot about biomechanics and how important quality instead of quantity is. Especially as you get older. Fewer injuries, more fun. He has a great way to teach kids how to improve in their particular sport. He builds the foundation for success. Over the 8 years I spend with Coach Franks I saw a lot of kids competing in the Nationals and the Junior Olympics because of his professional and effective training programs. For me, as an old guy, the most important thing was to stay injury free and to keep the same pace without training much harder. The last 3 years before I came back to El Paso I didn’t run any race and my training went down from 60 miles to 20 miles a week. After that 3 year break, I started to train again on my own and finished a marathon in 3 hours 23 minutes.
Then I joined Franks training group again and after a couple of months, my finish time drops to 3 hours 9 minutes and half a year later to 3 hours 4 minutes at the age of 48.

I started training with Franks at a really difficult time in my running career. I started running track at a very young age. Little did I know, I was being trained by coaches to put minimal focus into my health and well being. The focus was placed solely on my performance. Although I won many races, made a name for myself in my city, and routinely made it to regionals/nationals in both summer track and track & field at my high school, I got to a point where I became severely injured and unhealthy.

Franks took me in as one of his athletes at a time when my injuries were most painful, even after seeking medical attention. He implemented a tailor made program for me through his focus on joint health, proper strength training, nutrition, and biomechanics. He nurtured me back to health and performance.

Franks wasn’t afraid to be creative in helping me run with proper form. I pronated when running, ran with improper shoes, had a poor warm up and cool down routine, and neglected to maintain proper biomechanics. Before we were even able to get into an intense level of training, my biomechanics were emphasized, since the neglect of focus in this area could lead to injury as it had in the past. By my senior year, I was healthy, running at an optimal level, was pain free, and able to obtain a scholarship to continue running in college. Throughout this experience, he has been a mentor to me and I have learned so much from him.

I trained with Franks from my sixth-grade year in middle school, all the way up to my senior year in high school (2014). Throughout those seven years, Franks has helped me compete and win on a national level for middle distance track and cross country, and has taught me a number of indispensable life lessons along the way.
Franks gave me an effective, custom-tailored training plan that fit my needs. From the start, we worked on attaining a healthy biomechanical running form and on using extensive warm up and cool down routines, as well as a training schedule that included active rest, to keep me injury-free while we explored the limits of my body.
Because of Franks’ comprehensive knowledge of nutrition and physiology, his eye for biomechanical movements and proper running technique, and his emphasis on helping me overcome psychological barriers, I was able to make leaps and bounds towards my training goals; and so it is my firm belief, that no matter who you are, or what fitness goals you might want to achieve, that Franks will be able to help you, too.

Coach Franks is a person who has played a big role in my running career as a student-athlete. Arriving from Kenya, he always observed and checked on me, we talked about life in general but keenly, he was concerned about my running. Training under him was a learning process every day. From the first day you’ll learn exercises done before and after practice which plays a big part in running, the warmup and cooldown routine is repeated in an everyday workout or easy run which helps you shy away from injuries. His running schedule and the routes for his athletes in El Paso are the best having experienced it myself, I would fully recommend his program. I’ve enjoyed my time since I started training with him at El Paso community college till my transitioning to New Mexico State University cross country.
